Dubia Roach Care Guide
Dubia roaches (Blaptica dubia) are a popular, nutrient-rich feeder insect known for their ease of care, low odor, and inability to climb smooth surfaces.
Housing
- May be kept in the original container until feeding
- Use a smooth-sided plastic bin or enclosure with secure ventilation
- Provide egg crates or cardboard flats to maximize surface area
- Keep enclosure dry, clean, and well-ventilated
Temperature
Dubia roaches thrive in warm environments:
- Optimal range: 85–95°F
- Below 70°F: Activity and reproduction slow significantly
- Below 60°F: May lead to stress or death
⚠️ Use a heat mat or external heat source if needed (avoid direct contact)
Humidity
- Maintain moderate humidity (40–60%)
- Too much moisture can cause mold or mites
- Too little humidity may impact molting
Feeding
Provide a balanced diet for healthy, nutritious feeders:
- Dry foods: Commercial roach chow, grains, or high-quality insect feed
- Fresh foods: Fruits and vegetables such as carrots, oranges, squash, and leafy greens
⚠️ Remove uneaten fresh food within 24–48 hours to prevent mold
Hydration
- Use cotton ball or damp paper towel to prevent drowning
- Avoid open water dishes
Cleaning & Maintenance
- Remove dead roaches and waste regularly
- Clean enclosure as needed to prevent odor and bacteria buildup
- Keep food and water sources fresh
